#Pride2018 in Downtown New West

If you’ve been wondering about the increase of rainbow flags and drag queens that have been taking over Vancouver, then you’ve noticed that Pride month is in full swing! If you missed the Vancouver Pride Parade, you’re in luck; Downtown New West is hosting a week long celebration, with different events every day.

Ready to celebrate Pride 2018? Check out this list of the best events.

Saturday, August 11

Kick off Pride Week with the annual Pride Cruise at the Paddlewheeler River Boat Tours! This 19+ event will feature a live DJ and karaoke, which is perfect to dance with your friends and meet new people. Plus, there will be food and drink specials all night long. What better way to kick off Pride?

Sunday, August 12

The fabulous Mz. Adrian will be the main event at the Heritage Grill’s Drag Show, backed by Robin Loveless, Vonda DuPoint and Celestial Seasons. These ladies will keep you entertained with dancing, lip syncing and humor. This event has sold out in past years, so make sure to reserve your spot early!

Monday, August 13

City Hall will be conducting the official flag raising ceremony to start Pride Week. Head to the Friendship Garden in City Hall to watch the event at 12pm and listen to the proclamation presentation.

Tuesday, August 14

For the families looking to celebrate Pride, the New West Pride Family Picnic is the event for you. Gather at Pier Park from 5-9pm for a relaxing, beautiful day. This is a free event and there will be crafts and activities for the kids. Bring a blanket, some food and drinks, and settle down for an afternoon of fun.

Wednesday, August 15

If you love dancing, the New West Pride Hoedown is the perfect event for you. This free event at Century House will have demonstrations and summer refreshments. Even if you’re a beginner, or you have absolutely no idea how to dance, they will be happy to teach you.

Thursday, August 16

Love baking? Love eating baked goods? The New West Farmers Market will be hosting their annual pie contest. Held in Tipperary Park, all the best bakers of New West will gather to win bragging rights. If you’re there for the food, slices of pie will be sold to raise money for the New West Pride.

Friday, August 17

Food trucks? Vendors? Beer? What is a better way to spend your Friday night? The weekly Fridays on Front will be hosted in collaboration with New West Pride. If you’re looking for a fun, family friendly event to relax at before the busyness of Pride Parade, head down to Front street.

Saturday, August 18

And finally, the event that the whole week leads up to… New West Pride Street Party! This event will run along Columbia Street from 3-8pm and is jam packed with three stages of entertainment and drag performances. The whole street will be filled with games, activities and performances, so make sure to head there early to check everything out!
