Give yourself a fright in Downtown New West

For all you haunted house fans, we found some well known haunted spots you should definitely check out! Who knows maybe you'll even see a ghost?

New West is an old city with even older buildings that are full of history and as it turns out, they're full of ghosts too! Don't believe us? Well we've discovered a few places right here in Downtown New West where ghosts and mysterious figures have been spotted on more than one occasion. If you've been searching but just haven't been lucky (or unlucky) enough to see any strange sights, we're here to tell you where to go if you're looking for a fright this Halloween!

1

One of the few survivors of the Great Fire in 1898, The Met Hotel is a beautiful heritage building that just happens to be home to a ghost or two. If you're planning on staying here, get a room on the fourth floor and be on the lookout for a couple dressed in old-fashioned clothing. Apparently hotel guests and staff often see them talking near the elevator. You might even beget lucky and spot George, who used to live in the building, hovering in the hallways or walking through walls. Just don't try and follow him!

The Keg on Columbia Street may have closed down but just because there aren't any customers inside, that doesn't mean the building is empty. Sightings by customers include seeing the silhouette of a woman walking in front of the serving area and a young girl standing at the top of the staircase. Other reports mention patrons sitting down for a delicious steak dinner only to look up and see a mysterious woman's face in the mirror. Working there isn't for the faint of heart as employees have reported hearing a voice softly calling their name in the basement. It's enough to make your hair stand on end!

On the outside, the old courthouse on Carnarvon Street doesn't give you the heebie-jeebies but your skin will start crawling once you hear what we've uncovered. Rumour has it that there are tunnels leading from somewhere inside the courthouse all the way down to the Fraser river. Apparently these tunnels were once used to transport prisoners from ships to the courthouse where they would be tried for their crimes and then hanged. Angry and seeking justice, the ghosts of these unfortunate men may still be haunting the tunnels to this very day.

If just reading about these spooky haunts isn't scary enough, try checking them out for yourself but don't say we didn't warn you!
