Vancouver Circus School in DT New West

The Vancouver Circus School is the largest circus school in Western Canada, and it's right here in Downtown New West in the River Market!

As Summer Ambassadors, it really is our job to be extremely coordinated and graceful… so we thought we’d demonstrate our acrobatic skill by running away and joining the circus for the day! What a field trip! We tried trampolines, aerial silks, and even spinning plates.  The trampolines got us started, we had an awesome teacher and she showed us the ins and outs of proper etiquette when bouncing. That’s right, there is a proper trampoline form and we learned it. As we bounced we got to know our fellow participants. The Intro class was all adults, and only four of us were in attendance, giving us a chance to really get instructor time, and one on one help.

After trampolines, (which was a major sweat glistening workout BTW) we headed over to the aerial silks. We tried several positions, starting with the square, a major abs workout, moving to the cocoon, and on to the inverted straddle. It was lots of fun and also far more difficult than the graceful circus artists make it seem.

Finally, we tried a few juggling tricks. We used devil sticks (or flower sticks if you prefer) to make a train, we played with gymnastic ribbons, and spun plates. It was all in all a fun and awesome trip.

The Vancouver Circus School is a fun and welcoming place. The instructors helped us feel at ease, and willing to try all the crazy acrobatic feats. We’d definitely recommend a trip to anyone looking to try something different. Maybe you’ll end up loving it and running away to join the circus yourself!   -2014 Summer Am-badass-adors
