INTRO TO AERIAL HOOP & STATIC TRAPEZE
05:30pm -06:30pm
While a staple apparatus of the circus, in its own right, the Static Trapeze also instils in students a skill set that is integral to Dance and Swinging Trapeze. Once students become adept at using the Static Trapeze, they will progress to using the Aerial Hoop. The Aerial Hoop, also sometimes referred to as lyra or cerceaux, is a dynamic aerial apparatus that makes use of combined strength, flexibility, and creative movement, while static or spinning. Please note: We recommend that students registering in this class have completed a session of classes on Aerial Silks.

06:00pm -08:00pm
Tourism New Westminster is kicking off its third annual Feast on the Fraser in style with “Piva on the Pier” on September 14. Guests at the event will be the first to get a taste of Piva, the much-anticipated modern Italian restaurant opening this fall in downtown New Westminster, and they'll enjoy local craft beer and wine on the city’s spectacular riverfront.
But the launch is just the appetizer for the feast to come: 10 days of signature culinary experiences taking place throughout New Westminster from September 22 to October 1. From tastings and cocktail parties to neighbourhood food tours and long table dinners, the menu includes a Mad Men Mixer at the retro-cool Mid-Century Modern Home store, a Speakeasy Prohibition Gala at 100 Braid Street Studios, a Beauty and the Beast Tea Party and a Canada 150-themed dinner on the Fraser River, to name a few.
Events showcase local restaurants and local ingredients from the Fraser Valley, but Feast on the Fraser is about more than just dining. “It’s creating these cool collaborations between chefs and producers and the unique spaces we have in New West,” says Tej Kainth, executive director of Tourism New Westminster. “Our events are smaller and more intimate, to give visitors a real taste of what we have to offer here.”
Feast on the Fraser has grown since its first event only two years ago, but its focus remains on creating must-do “Made In New West” experiences. This year’s presenting sponsor, Alpine Credits, shares this vision. “We're happy to support this wonderful community initiative to help promote New Westminster as a destination,” says Kerilee Raven, from Alpine Credits.
Feast on the Fraser is made possible with the support of its flavour sponsor, the Fraser Valley, and campaign partners including the City of New Westminster, Downtown New Westminster BIA, Landcor Data Corporation and the River Market.
Tickets are now available for Feast on the Fraser. To see event details and buy tickets online, visit the event's website above.

Tributaries: Video Screening by Emilie Crewe
6:30 - Click Exhibit Unveiling
7:00 - Emilie Crewe - Artist Talk
7:30 - Tributaries Screening
8:00 - Cultural Roundtable Response
As part of the Canada 150 anniversary, the City of New Westminster will be bringing together a collection of cultural projects centered on the concept of “Home”. The intent behind this program is to engage artists, residents and visitors in conversations surrounding the theme of “Home”. Home exudes more than a place where we sleep, eat and keep our belongings. Home can be a place of belonging, where safety, security and identity are upheld. At a time of increased immigration and displacement, home might be a new and challenging place. Home may also be on unceded territories. Houses, community spaces, neighborhoods, rivers, mountains, cities and countries are all a part of home.
"Tributaries" by Emilie Crewe is an experimental video collage that documents narratives of the past and present of New Westminster, and its central location along the banks of the Fraser River. The video acts as a scrapbook of sorts, with the intention of evoking a collective historical identity and a sense of place within the audience.
The title, "Tributaries", references a river, but is more of a nod to the concept of paying tribute to a larger entity. Comprised of several short montages of local people, places and histories, the video as a whole represents a larger story of the area. It takes shape and flows, in a sense, like a river.
Using the resources available at the Fraser River Discovery Centre, The City of New Westminster Museum & Archives and Anvil Centre, the breadth and heart of the video is based on local stories and mementos of the past and present. The artwork reflects on “then and now” with an attempt to conjure a shared nostalgia amongst viewers. "We are pleased to partner with the City of New Westminster on this artistic initiative,” said Stephen Bruyneel, Executive Director, Fraser River Discovery Centre. “The Fraser River has been “home” to so many for so long, and this is a new and innovative way to acknowledge that fact.”
Emilie Crewe (b. 1987, Quebec City, Canada) is an interdisciplinary artist working in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her work often takes the form of video installation, single-channel video, multi-channel video, sculpture and sketch-work (drawings, collections & archives). She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Her artwork is exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, artist-run centres, experimental film/video festivals, and as public art. http://emiliecrewe.com/
The event is FREE and open to the public, however per-registration is recommended, use the link above at the event's website. The event is being held in conjunction with the 2017 edition of the Click Exhibit Unveiling.
This event has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada and is in partnership with the Arts Council of New Westminster and the Fraser River Discovery Centre.

Phil Johnson @ Lafflines Comedy Club
09:30pm -11:30pm
Phil Johnson is a man who gets mistaken for a woman, but only by those not paying attention. That revelation kicks off a battle for self-awareness where comedy and music are the weapons of choice. It's a battle that has taken Phil to such esteemed festivals as the Edinburgh Fringe and Sundance Film Festivals and the Top 8 Finals of the World Series of Comedy.
On stage, Phil's playful humor and likeable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience. In the end we can only be who we are, try to understand others, and hope they understand us.

Drive Web Traffic with Writing and SEO Strategies
Details
Hello everyone! After a brief hiatus, we are ready to bring you some great speakers this fall. Here is our first one, and stay tuned for our October and November meetups.
--
Join us to learn about web writing and SEO strategies from Lisa that will help you drive more web traffic!
Companies that publish compelling, web-friendly content receive considerably more web traffic than those with content that ignores web reader habits and SEO. So how can you ensure your content is found -- and read -- by the people you’re trying to reach? We’ll start by looking at web reader habits and translate them into web writing strategies you can use to help your content get eyeballs and engagement.

Housing Hackathon
We are in a housing crisis in MetroVancouver and we need solutions.
Using Open Space Technology, participants will “hack” a series of issues relating to housing.
Hacking is defined as problem solving that:
Demonstrates cleverness, creativity, or ingenuity
Solves a meaningful problem
Is not a common or well-known solution to the problem
May not be the most straightforward or well-known solution
Is bold or radical
The event will begin with a brief introduction which outlines the purpose, followed by an invitation to break into working groups based around particular problems such as rental housing and the Residential Tenancy Act, non-for-profit or non-market housing including co-ops, population specific housing, supplies and design, and other issues.
Attendees do not require any special knowledge, just a willingness to share experience and creative ideas.
Recommendations will be collected at the end of the night and presented to government and other groups as appropriate.
BYOB. Light snacks will be provided! See more details and RSVP using the event's website above.
