Burger Heaven Challenge

Saturday, August 3, 2019

Downtown New West’s fresh gourmet burger staple, Burger Heaven, challenges big eaters to take on Ernie’s Mile High Challenge. The challenge is definitely not for the faint of heart - the mile high burger was stacked (one mile high) with eight beef patties and topped with all the works.

Completion of the mile high burger wins the eater a place on Burger Heaven’s coveted Mile High Club wall of fame. While many would cower in fear at the sight of such a monster, Eric will take on the challenge and hope to conquer Ernie’s Mile High Challenge, bringing glory to the Downtown New West BIA.

Disclaimer: The following post features images of large amounts of beef being consumed.

Pre-Burger

Our lovely server, Monique, from Burger Heaven gave us the rundown:  You must finish the burger AND the sides to complete the challenge. There is no time limit; but of course, there are time records. Burger Heaven’s quickest winner finished in a mere six minutes. If you complete the challenge, you win a place on their wall of fame, a congratulatory dessert and a Burger Heaven t-shirt!

0:00 Tensions are high, super anxious and hungry; I haven’t eaten in 12 hours. The burger arrives at the table and it’s an absolute unit as expected. My fellow BIA teammates gasp at how high the tower of patties went.

1:30 I have begun the journey, knowing very little of what will become of my stomach in a very short time.

11:28 I am now a couple patties down, but the road ahead seems long and arduous. I am already starting to second guess my decision on getting fries as my side.

24:10 Seven patties down, leaving me with a thin burger, enough to finally hold it within my hands.

25:20 One bite into the burger and I must set it down to rest. The human body was not intended to consume this much nourishment.

31:52 My original goal was to finish within 25 minutes, that is clearly out of the picture now. See my concerned face.

47:00 Still not done the burger, I have begun grinding time. I keep telling myself “What I do today on Burger Heaven’s historic dining table will define my legacy as a summer ambassador”.

63:35 I finally finished the burger. However, my bites are getting slower and my stomach is calling for my brain to quit. The challenge does not end until all the food on the plate has been cleaned off. I thought back at the time where I requested my sides to be half fries and half salad - maybe I should have just gotten the salad? To be honest, I was thinking about calling it off and bringing the fries home in a to-go bag.

85:25 The ultimate grind. The final push. My last stand. The last leg of the race. Clocking in at 85 minutes, I am nowhere near the head of the pack but I am proud to say that I earned my place on Ernie’s famous wall of fame.
