Ever since 1892, New Westminster has had a bustling market along the riverfront. In the early days, farmers from all over the Valley came to the market on the Fraser River using paddlewheelers and small boats. In 1986, the Westminster Quay Public Market was built and opened its doors to a flow of activities. In 2008, the Westminster Quay Public Market was renamed River Market at Westminster Quay to celebrate the history of Fraser River, the growing communities of Fraser Valley, and the market’s revitalization.
