Ron Vaudry @ Lafflines
Ron Vaudry, looked around and said, “You can’t be serious!” Never the class clown, but rather making fun of the class clown, Ron found his niche.
Finding the opportunity to perform on stage for the first time in 1979 on labour day weekend in a small club in Montreal for the Jerry Lewis Joke-a-thon.Twelve noon to twelve midnight, all proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy. “Good deposit in the karma bank!”, he thought. Performing twelve sets that day, the hook was set and he never looked back.
Quickly becoming a forerunner on the Canadian comedy scene. Ron has appeared on numerous television shows in Canada, The United States, and the UK, as well as many of the top Comedy Festivals around the world. An uncompromising master in his field of hard hitting social and political satire, Ron’s reputation as a comic’s comic has not detered audiences from enjoying his unique comedic perspective around the world,

BONNIE NISH
Bonnie’s love of words was instilled in her by her father at a young age. A poet and writer himself, he would recite poetry during their evening drives together. Bonnie’s journey into the world of literature was greatly influenced by his sensitivity to the wonders, beauty, and sufferings of the world.
Bonnie has a bachelor’s degree in English literature (UofT), and a master’s degree in Arts Education (SFU). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Language and Literacy in Education at UBC.
Bonnie’s work has now been published in over 100 different publications. However, Bonnie’s contributions to the world of writing goes far beyond the page.
Soon after moving to Vancouver in 2001, Bonnie helped to form Pandora’s Collective, a group dedicated to promoting and improving Vancouver’s writing community. Over the years, Pandora’s has certainly accomplished that goal, putting together scholarships for young writers, open mics, writing workshops and events, including the Summer Dreams Literary Arts Festival.
Bonnie has personally co-created and helped to run such events as the Twisted Poets Literary Salon, Word Whips Writing Series at the Britannia Library, The North Shore and White Rock editions as wee as at the Jewish Community Centre. As well, she began and continues to run weekly and monthly writing workshops in local schools and drug rehabilitation centers.
For these, and her countless other contributions to the writing community, Bonnie has received numerous awards, including most recently the Writers International Network’s (W.I.N.) People’s Laureate Award and Dr. Asha Bhargava Memorial Award and the YWCA’s Women of Distinction Nomination in Arts and Culture. Bonnie’s first full book of poetry ‘Love and Bones’ was released into the literary world by Karma Press in September 2013.

Sam Davidson pop-up Performance
Anvil Centre Artist-in-Residence Program
The City of New Westminster and the Arts Services Department are excited to announce the launch of the Anvil Centre Artist-in-Residence Program. In its inaugural year, the AiR is a self-directed residency program offering opportunities for artists to focus on work in a creative environment, with dedicated studio time.
This residency accommodates artists and artist collectives working in sculpture, print, fiber, drawing, painting, writing and literary arts, music, dance and performance for a four-week period for research, development and production of new or ongoing bodies of work. In exchange, artists will facilitate an outreach program for the local community during their residency.
With over 30 applications from artists and artist groups across the Lower Mainland, 14 projects were selected, supporting 20 artists across a variety of media and practices including writing, music and composition, photography, performing arts, dance and choreography, and social practice.
January 2017, we welcome our first Artist-in-Residence, Sam Davidson. Davidson (B.Mus) is a specialist in the EWI, a breath-controlled synthesizer of under-realized potential which he features in his recordings and performances. He is a member of Canadian band Brasstronaut who have toured Europe and North America extensively. He also performs as sideman to Toronto violinist Jaron Freeman-Fox and The Opposite of Everything.
For the duration of the residency Davidson will be working across several genres and instruments all the while building new repertoire and developing his compositional techniques. Using 'early music' (AD1620-1720) as source material, Davidson will be immersing himself in baroque melodies and extracting their themes to recycle into new innovative works.
Join us for pop-up performances Friday, January 13th 12:00pm and Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00pm, and attend the final presentation of his practice and residency project Saturday, February 4th at 3:00pm.
For information about the Anvil Centre Artist-in-Residence Program, or Sam Davidson’s upcoming presentations, please contact Kristina Fiedrich, Arts Programmer. Find out more about Sam Davidson on his personal website: www.skimmilk.com

Fresh Talk - Children @ New Media Gallery
02:00pm -04:00pm
A circle of diverse & accomplished women offer fascinating perspectives on childhood psychology, feminism, motherhood & artistic practice, and the topsy turvy world of collaborative, childhood creativity.
Guest speakers Christine D’Onofrio, Elizabeth MacKenzie, Hannah Jickling and Helen Reed weave together their own unique perspectives and experiences on the idealized and sentimentalized role of mother, the complexities and contradictions of living a creative life with children, identity formation and encouraging meaningful creativity and play in children. Join us for an open conversation in response to the current New Media Gallery exhibition Children, that considers the role of the artist and the maternal in creating works about, and in collaboration with, children. This event is free and open to all ages.
Please include time to visit the CHILDREN exhibition with works by Candice Breitz, Kerry Tribe, Christian Jankowski, Lenka Clayton, Chiharu Shiota and Elisa Giardina-Papa. CHILDREN explores the spectrum of human perception, imagination, identification and expectation through the eyes of children. We are presented with intelligent, imaginative beings who long for ideas, who question the meaning of life, human interaction and beginnings, who imagine and become 'other' and who stretch the limits of familial bonds. Six video installations offer a rich trajectory of the human condition.

Tragedy + Time Served = Comedy
Come on down on February 1st for Opening Night and welcome W.O.W's featured performer for Wednesdays in February - Mark Hughes!
