Murray may have a blues soul to the core, but he also grew up on rock and roll, R & B and country music. Porter’s first CD since his 2012 JUNO Award for ‘Aboriginal Album of the Year’ is titled, “STAND UP!” and reflects these early musical influences. Porter has most recently performed at British Columbia’s largest summer music Festival, the Skookum Festival, at Stanley Park in Vancouver; Harmony Arts Festival (West Vancouver), Fort Langley Jazz Festival (B.C.), Assembly of First Nations Gala (Vancouver); Calabogie Blues Festival (ON); Onkwehon:we Festival (Woodland Cultural Centre, Brantford, ON); Rez Bluez in Vancouver, Toronto, Kahnawake, Que. As a Solo he’s performed at: National Indigenous Day (Vancouver); McGill University Indigenous Awareness Week, Montreal; several Indigenous corporate, organizational and private events from Gitwanga, B.C. to Six Nations, Ont. Our evening will be hosted by CBC's Margaret Gallagher - host of CBC Radio One's Hot Air. Ms. Gallagher is actively involved in community outreach. She has tirelessly donated her time and efforts in supporting many Vancouver groups and has hosted a variety of arts and community events, including: UBC & SFU Alumni Associations, Asian Heritage Month, The Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Vancouver International Folk Music Festival and Hapa-pooloza.
